Where are you located?
How does teletherapy work?
Teletherapy is counseling outside of a physical office. It happens in a virtual teleconferencing room (similar to Zoom) where both audio and video modes are used.
You will be provided a link that allows you to enter the “room” at the time of your appointment.
What are your hours?
How long does a therapy session last?
Do you accept health insurance?
Yes. I am an in-network provider for Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare/Optum.
What happens if I don’t have health insurance or don’t want to use my health insurance?
You always have the option to self-pay for services. The cost for an individual session is $165.
I accept most major credit cards, debit cards, and HSA cards.
How do I start therapy?
What happens if I can’t make a scheduled session?
You can cancel or reschedule your session up to 24 hours before your appointment time.
For cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice, a late cancellation fee of $75 will be applied to your account.
How do I know if I’m ready for therapy?
Although therapy is meant to be preventative, most people don’t start until they’re already struggling.
If you’re finding yourself repeatedly wrestling with indecision, feeling lost or stuck, and your quality of life is rapidly decreasing, then it’s time to reach out for therapy.
How often do I need to attend counseling sessions?
This depends on various factors, which we’ll talk about during your first appointment.
After your initial assessment is completed, we’ll discuss the frequency of sessions and the length of treatment that will work best to reach your goals. We’ll also have regular check-ins throughout treatment about your progress to reassess your needs.
What will my first appointment be like?
First off, you’ll probably be nervous. That’s totally normal! It can feel awkward to share your thoughts and feelings with someone you just met. But being prepared and knowing what to expect can help ease some of your nerves.
Your first therapy appointment will involve me asking you some questions about you and your life: your symptoms, ways you are currently coping, and your therapy goals.
Over time, our meetings will feel easier, and you’ll start to see the many benefits.
Why should I want a therapist who is also a woman of color?
Many popular therapy techniques and theories weren’t developed with us in mind.
There are unique struggles that those who are of color experience and can fully understand about one another.
By being a therapist of color, I keep those types of struggles in mind, give you an open space to discuss them, and offer resources that better fit your cultural dynamics.
I hate crying. Will therapy make me cry?
There is something about sharing what’s buried deep down inside that tends to make the eyes a bit “sweaty.” This is normal – a sign that you are 100% human.
Tears show that we feel something, and that “something” is not always a bad thing. Laughing can produce tears, too, and that’s something we will be doing a lot of in our time together.
Does therapy actually work?
Absolutely! Clients who have the most success are the ones who show up consistently, work on therapy suggestions between sessions, and remain open to trying new things.
